GENERAL INFORMATION

Funding

This program is a Fee For Service Program which is part of the Attleboro Public Schools and therefore is subject to all relevant policies and procedures of the Principals, the Superintendent of the Attleboro School System and the Attleboro School Committee. A child's enrollment is contingent upon the approval of the school principal. The site principal will determine each child's suitability to the ABACUS program. This program is regulated by and meets all guidelines set forth by the State of Massachusetts, Department of Education. The program is funded by parent tuition payments. Program and payroll expenses are not funded by state or local funds, however, there is always an ongoing attempt to obtain grant money to be used for program expansion.

Services

The ABACUS Program intends to provide high quality before and after school Child-care. The program will provide a structured but informal learning environment, which will include a variety of activities and projects. All activities will be designed to be interesting, fun, and age appropriate. Activities in art, sports, reading, computer use, and cooking will be available for the children.

Schedule

The primary goal of the Attleboro Before and After School Child-care Program is to provide the families of all Attleboro Public School students with quality, affordable Child-care. We recognize that the needs of each family will be different and therefore we attempt to meet those needs by offering a variety of schedules and programs.

Please refer to the registration form for times and schedule information.

Forms may be obtained from the ABACUS office at Peter Thacher Elementary School.

Student Expectations

Students attending our program are of kindergarten, elementary and middle school age and will be expected to follow certain behavior guidelines that are consistent throughout all Attleboro Public Schools.

At all times, students will be courteous and respectful towards other students and adults.

A student's behavior must not disrupt activities, endanger other students or adults, or interfere with the rights of others to participate freely.

Homework Policy

It is the belief of ABACUS that there is a balance between a student's academic needs and out of school time. Children have a need to relax, have snacks, learn new skills, get exercise and develop social skills during this time. We feel that homework immediately following school is overwhelming and therefore encourage children to participate in non-academic experiences first. Individual sites are happy to motivate and assist students with homework assignments.
