Scholastic Art Awards for AHS Students
The 2012 Boston Globe Scholastic Art & Writing Awards were published in February. 聽The competition was intense and the award decisions were difficult for the judges. 聽This year Scholastic received over 13,000 artwork entries from Massachusetts.
Their work will be on display at the Transportation Center in Boston from February 13, 2012 through April 20, 2012. Look for their work in the visual arts display case this spring.
The Gold Key winners will advance to a regional competition.
Congratulations to these talented AHS students! Coming Soon!
To all parents of graduating seniors!
Would your student like one last opportunity to gather with classmates in a safe environment the night after graduation?
The Attleboro High School Parent group will again be sponsoring an all-night graduation party for AHS class of 2012 at the Attleboro YMCA Pleasant Street Branch (located on the old Texas Instruments Campus) on 537 Pleasant St., Attleboro on Friday, June 8, 2012 from 11:00 p.m. until 5:30 a.m.
The party is free of charge and has many events and activities that many past graduates have truly enjoyed. They will have the chance to use the YMCA courts and pool, play games and contests, dance with a DJ, experience professional entertainers, enjoy losts of great food, and win valuable prizes.
We are looking for senior parents who would be able to help out either in planning the event or soliciting donations from local community and/or businesses. If you can help us in any way, even if you can help with a donation of any amount made out to the "After Graduation Party Committee", we would be most grateful.
Please encourage your senior to consider going to this great event.
Help AHS Earn Funds to Support School Programs
Attleboro High School is now set up to receive funds from the Stop and Shop A+ bonus bucks program. Anyone who shops at Stop and Shop can register his or her Stop and Shop card by using the code "08455" and going to www.stopandshop.com. Click on "our stores" and then select "register your card". Identify AHS as the recipient school when prompted to do so. After that, our school will receive a monthly check reflecting the percentage of the total receipts expended at Stop and Shop stores. The funds will go into our gifts and donations account which will be used to support school programs and materials. If you are aware of other vendors (We are currently participating in the Target Stores program) who would serve as financial partners in a similar way, please let us know. Thank You. Jeff Newman

Vocational education teaching skills in demand
Like most high school seniors this time of year, Attleboro High School's Brianne DeVincent is navigating preparations for college and the whirl of activities that attend just-around-the corner graduation.
But DeVincent, who's more proficient at designing and maintaining websites than most teens are at naming their favorite pop stars, already knows where she's going.
A vocational student in the high school's graphic communication program, she's already a webmaster for her school and provides Web services to two other educational programs. She's planning to attend Champlain College in Vermont and hopes to become a professional Web designer.
Virtually all of the state's 26 public career and technical schools now have waiting lists for their programs, which teach everything from auto repair to electronics, according to a recent report from the Pioneer Institute.
Vocational education was also the focus of a new Harvard University study that called for an expansion of vocational programs nationwide to allow students more choices leading to future careers. (More)
