Sophomore Career Fair

October 18, 2005

Information is in the Guidance Department

During the sophomore year the Guidance Department puts emphasis on helping students explore their strengths and interests with particular attention to how these might relate to the choice of a career. A relevant and challenging curriculum continues to be important for students during the sophomore year, and students should continue in or begin involvement with meaningful co-curricular and community activities.

CAREER EXPLORATION

  • Each student meets with his or her counselor to investigate information of personal interest which might relate to the choice of a career. This exploration will use technology resources to identify this information.

COURSE SELECTION GROUP

  • Each student is invited to a small group meeting to review progress in meeting graduation requirements and to select courses for the junior year.
    •  In addition to attending the group meetings above, sophomores are encouraged to make use of the following services provided by faculty and members of the Guidance Department, as needed:
INDIVIDUAL SERVICES
  • Meet with counselor, where appropriate, to review and adjust the schedule and to discuss co-curricular activities.
  • Become involved in Community Service(required) and Work Experience(optional) through the Guidance Resource Center.
  • Become involved in school or community sponsored shadowing and school-to-work programs.
  • Meet with teachers throughout the year should the need arise for additional help and to use the academic resource centers where appropriate.
  • Meet with counselor and/or school adjustment counselor should problems of a personal or academic nature arise.

Parents are encouraged to contact teachers, guidance counselors or school adjustment counselors with questions or concerns that might arise during the school year.
