Educators deal with complex problems each and every day. As professionals, they should have a key role in developing the standards that focus on the degree of competence with which they solve these challenges. The emphasis should be on the educator’s effectiveness in fostering student achievement.
The new system replaces the current comprehensive evaluation of 16 performance standards with eight performance standards directly related to the Principles of Effective Teaching and to state performance standards. In addition, it would replace the non-compliant, single formal evaluation and three-year cycle with a DOE-compliant, biennial, formal evaluations and a four-year cycle. The evaluation system was developed collaboratively and reflects a shared commitment to our Journey toward Excellence.
