The Special Education Department for the Attleboro Public School District serves students from age three through age 22.

We provide a broad spectrum of services for students with disabilities across our district. These students have been identified with a disability and they require specially designed intervention, instruction, or related service in order to access the general curriculum.

Your Rights

Federal law guarantees every student the right to a free and appropriate public education regardless of handicap or disability. State law (CMR 28) further guarantees the right to an education in the “least restrictive environment.”

If you believe that your child is having difficulty making progress in a regular classroom due to a disability, you have the right to an evaluation of your child to find out if he or she has a disability and is eligible for special education services. If you wish to begin an evaluation process for your child, it will be necessary to write to the building principal because written consent is required.

Our Commitment

We are totally committed to providing exceptional service to students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment, and to developing collaborative relationships with their parents in order to meet their needs. Our charge is to provide these students with access to the curriculum and general education programs.

Our Goals

  • to base our instructional strategies on research
  • to continually monitor individual student progress
  • to complete the necessary diagnostic and educationally relevant evaluations
  • to assist our students with their post-secondary goals
  • to follow all regulations developed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)
  • to help out-of-district students to maintain a connection with their home districts
