Leadership Advisory Board (LAB)
The School Committee and Attleboro Education Association are committed to pursuing a collaborative relationship through the Leadership Advisory Board. The LAB is a contractual mechanism where district-wide decisions are made to support the improvement of all students. The lab consists of the following councils made up of groups of teachers, paraprofessionals, and administrators:
Human Resources (meets on Mondays)
Current Chairperson: Alicia Morin
The Human Resource Council’s goal is to collaborate as a team in the decision-making process which guides the district's selection, support, and retention of educational staff. The council has worked collaborating with the paras in the district to draft job descriptions for the para librarian, inclusion para, and sub-separate paras for review and approval. The council continues to focus its attention on developing retention strategies for staff, analyzing staff survey data, and researching retention best practices to begin this process. The council will be using the data and feedback from the staff survey and research gathered to formulate a retention plan that outlines specific strategies to be implemented across the district that increase staff morale and retention.
Operations and Infrastructure (meets on Thursdays)
Current Chairperson: Rachel Santos
The goal of The Operations and Infrastructure Council is to enhance the day to day learning environment for students and staff by taking on initiatives related to budgeting, optimizing facilities, improving organizational structures, and utilizing technology to maximize student learning. The Operations and Infrastructure council studied the feasibility of adjusting school start times. This work is currently on pause. The council is now shifting its focus to supporting the goals of Navigating Toward 2025, the district’s Strategic Plan.
Professional Growth (meets on Tuesdays)
Current Chairperson: Kristen Thomsen
The goal of the Professional Growth Council is to guide and support educators in the continuous improvement of professional practice and development. The PG Council is currently working on creating a framework for Targeted Professional Development days for the 23-24 school year. The council’s aim is to create professional development that both builds on itself from year to year and is relevant and engaging to all staff. The next step for the Professional Growth Council is to create a model for professional development that is cyclical, so staff see the continuous progression of their work.
Teaching and Learning (meets on Wednesdays)
Current Chairperson: Karen McLoughlin
The goal of the Teaching and Learning Council is to enhance learning experiences so that they are authentic, meaningful, and personalized so students leave APS as well-rounded citizens. The T&L Council is currently working on building capacity with staff on Portrait of a Graduate. The council’s aim is to create a roll-out plan to support teachers in navigating what Portrait of a Graduate looks like, feels like, and sounds like within the walls of the APS classrooms. The next step for the Teaching and Learning Council is to continue our work with Portrait of a Graduate and align our roll out and support for teachers with next year’s targeted PD of Portrait of a Graduate developed by the PG council.
