Next Week and Beyond
We have a full five days of school next week.
Scholarship Night
This year’s Attleboro High School Scholarship Night was a huge success! A record-breaking $308,700 was awarded in scholarships, thanks to the incredible generosity of our community. In total, 304 scholarships were presented to 173 deserving students.
A special thank you goes to Gina Spencer, Angela Larson, and Julie Little, who began planning this event back in November and worked tirelessly to ensure a smooth and meaningful evening for students, families, and donors. Their efforts—and the support of so many others—made this a night to remember for all involved.
Thank you to everyone who played a role in celebrating and supporting our seniors!
Grade 10 Math MCAS in Next Week
On Tuesday and Wednesday, all grade 10 students will be taking the Math MCAS exam. Read below for important information:
HERE is a student friendly test room location document that shares where most grade 10 students will be testing. A handful of students will be testing in rooms other than those indicated on this chart. Those students will receive a pass in X block before they report to testing.
Bring your Chromebook. Students have school-issued Chromebooks and they must bring them fully charged on each testing day. It is also recommended that students bring their chargers.
This is a mandatory test for grade 10 students. There is no opt out.
MCAS provides opportunities for our students.
The state will grant the MCAS-based Adams and Koplik scholarships.
Scores will help determine eligibility for honors and AP courses.
Scores will help determine honors diploma eligibility.
MCAS results will still count in the state’s accountability system. AHS will be evaluated as a school on how our students do on MCAS.
MCAS data will be used to help determine academic interventions for students and guide curricular and instructional decisions so we can better educate our students.
Sophomores: We believe you all have the ability to be successful on this test. Your teachers have worked hard to prepare you for this moment, and we’re sure that you have worked hard as well. Being successful on this test is a way for you to demonstrate BLUE PRIDE to yourself, your family, your teachers, and the whole school community. We all believe in you!
Special MCAS Schedule
More About Day 2 of MCAS
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s (DESE) voluntary Views of Climate and Learning (VOCAL) survey is administered after the Grade 10 Mathematics MCAS. It is designed to provide schools with information on student perceptions of three dimensions of school climate (engagement, safety, and environment). If you would like to learn more about this survey as well as the questions that are asked, please click on the following link: Views of Climate and Learning (VOCALS) Survey Project. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your support.
Progress Reports
On Wednesday, we shared trimester three progress reports with students and families. Here’s how to access them:
STEP 1: Log into your Aspen family account (https://ma-attleboro.myfollett.com) and click the “Pages” top tab.
STEP 2: Find the Published Reports heading on the main page.
STEP 3: Click the Progress Report under that heading.
If you have concerns about your student’s performance in any class, please contact the teacher. T3 ends in mid-March, so there is still plenty of time to improve performance.
News from the Guidance Department: Virtual Service Academy Night
The Office of Congressman Auchincloss is hosting a Virtual Service Academy Night on Monday, May 19 from 6:00-7:30 pm. This is an opportunity for high school students in grades 9-11 to learn more about the application process for five United States Service Academies: West Point, Navy, Air Force, Merchant Marines, and Coast Guard.
During the Academy Night, students will get to hear from Congressman Auchincloss’ staff about the Congressional nomination process required for four of the five service academies (Coast Guard Academy does not require a Congressional nomination). We will also be joined by representatives from each of the service academies to hear about the individual schools’ application processes.
Pre-registration for the webinar is required. Students and parents may register for the webinar at this LINK.
In the News
A few AHS classes worked collaboratively and showcased their work last week in the "Climate Democracy Project." Below is the article about the project, which included important topics many of us are passionate about. The article did a great job of highlighting all the hard work done by the students and the partnership with Mass Audubon. Climate Democracy Sun Chronicle article
