Shelter In Place
Purpose/Reason
A procedure for an internal or external hazard. School can continue within the classroom but there is no movement in the hallways.
Examples
Medical issue, someone outside the building that is suspicious, weather hazards
Alert Signal
An announcement will be made: “Shelter in place until further notice.”
Staff Responsibility
Continue business as usual inside the classroom.
Nobody (staff, students, parents, visitors) will be allowed in or out of the classroom or building without permission.
Check the hallway for any students and bring them into the nearest classroom. Contact the office for them to be escorted to their original classroom.
Student Responsibility
Continue business as usual inside the classroom.
Students should listen to all adult’s directions.
Post Communication
An announcement will be made: “Shelter in Place is Cleared.”
A message will be sent to families by administration.
