Lockdown
Purpose/Reason
An emergency procedure used when there is an immediate threat inside the building or on school grounds. All doors are locked, lights are turned off, and students and staff remain silent and out of sight of the doors/windows. When safe to do so, barricade the door by stacking furniture to prevent entry.
Examples
Suspicious person in the area
Alert Signal
An announcement will be made: “Lockdown until further notice.”
Staff Responsibility
Check hallway for any students and bring them into classrooms
Lock doors and windows if possible
Turn off lights
Pull blinds
Move students to safe zone in classroom (out of view)
Account for all students using class list
Make every effort in keeping students calm
Move furniture, cabinets, etc. in front of door to secure it from being operated
Student Responsibility
Listen to the teacher
Move to where they are told
No cell phone use
Post Communication
An announcement will be made “Lockdown is over.”
A message will be sent to families by administration
