August 22, 2025
Dear Families,
On behalf of everyone at the Attleboro Public Schools (APS), it is my pleasure to welcome you back for the 2025-2026 School Year. We are all busy preparing for another successful start. The first day for students in grades 1-12+ is Tuesday, September 2. The first day for our kindergarteners is Wednesday, September 10, and for preschool students it is Thursday, September 11. You should receive more details from individual schools in the coming days.
I encourage everyone to invest in your relationship with the devoted professionals who serve your student(s). Strong family-school partnerships create powerful support systems for student success. When parents and educators collaborate, sharing insights about children's strengths and needs, students benefit at home and school. This teamwork leads to stronger academic outcomes, more conscious choices, and increased motivation. Parents gain an understanding of the curriculum and teaching methods, while teachers learn helpful information to better support the child. The result is a unified team focused on helping every student thrive.
We continue to seek your support in ensuring students are with us every day. Regular school attendance is essential for academic success and personal development. When students show up consistently, they build strong learning foundations, develop social skills, and establish responsible habits. Missing school creates learning gaps that compound over time, making it harder to keep up with coursework. Consistent attendance demonstrates commitment and reliability, qualities that benefit students throughout their educational journey and beyond.
Next week, our websites are getting a fresh new look. All the information you need will still be there, just in an easier-to-find location. You may also notice updates to the APS app and the Rooms tool. Apptegy has made changes to make connecting with our educators simpler and more intuitive. Keep an eye out for messages from teachers over the next few weeks. If you have any questions about using the APS app, check out the Apptegy Family Resource Guide.
Our Transportation Department will be working through record ridership this September, and this sometimes requires route adjustments to balance late registrations. We ask for patience while we work through the normal complexities of a new year. All of these efforts are to make our transportation as safe and efficient as possible.
We are fortunate to have dedicated parent advisory groups that provide valuable support, resources, and advocacy for our diverse learners. For Families of Students with Disabilities: The Attleboro Special Education Parent Advisory Council (ASEPAC) offers a welcoming community where you can connect with other families and learn about special education rights and resources. Their first meeting is October 14, 2025, at 6:30 PM in the Frances Zito Conference Room at AHS. Additional information can be found on the ASEPAC flyer. For Multilingual Families: The English Learner Parent Advisory Council (ELPAC) creates a supportive space for families of multilingual learners to engage in their children's education. Please join them for their first meeting on October 8, 2025, at 5:30 PM in the Frances Zito Conference Room at AHS.
We are eager to collaborate in meeting the unique needs of your child(ren). Together we will ensure their healthy development and future success.
Sincerely,
David A. Sawyer
Superintendent of Schools
